About SCGvACC and VATSIM
Serbia and Montenegro virtual Area Control Centre, or SCGvACC for short, is an official vACC member of the global organization VATSIM, and part of the VATEUR Region and VATEUD Division. The sincere and primary objective of SCGvACC is to provide quality and professional ATC service for pilots flying on the VATSIM network within Beograd Area Control Center (ACC) and provide training for members wishing to take part in the virtual sky either as controllers or as pilots. We also provide up to date charts, sceneries, NOTAMS and information on flying inside the Belgrade FIR/ACC and the Kosovo Air Safety zone.
Below you will find more detailed information on the history of our hobby, our organization and what we stand for.
History of Flight Simulation
History of Online Flying
With internet getting more popular in the 90s, flight sim enthusiasts and professionals started a fantastic project, which is today a standard for realistic flying in the flight simulator world. The first created organization was SATCO (Simulated Air Traffic Control Organization). Membership numbers increased and SATCO, due to some difference between their leadership and creators, evolved into VATSIM (Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network). Today, this organization has 55000 members, with many real life pilots and air traffic controllers. It is now divided into regions (continents), and each continent into divisions. Each Division contains many vACCs, one for each country. VATSIM network is made out of about 10 servers for virtual flights and 10 voice servers. Flight simmers that are registered on the VATSIM network, have their own ID and password, that is used for logging in to services VATSIM provides. Connecting to VATSIM is really simple, and everything that is needed is a free client, a controller or a pilot one. To become a controller on the VATSIM network, it is necessary to pass written and practical exams, which are based on the real life ones but simplified to some extent. Each vACC is due to provide a Training Department for their new members, and help them to achieve in a best way a sufficient level for the exams. Also there are few levels for controllers. In order to get to a higher level, it will be necessary to have passed the exams of the lower level and to work a certain time with that responsibility. Obviously, more higher level you get, more knowledge you get also as well as the time you have passed within your organisation. The highest rank for which you can apply is Senior Controller. To achieve that you’ll need a min. of 2 years within VATSIM and 500 hours of controlling the virtual skies.
The birth of SCGvACC
Finally, our flight enthusiasts have created their own vACC, named Serbia & Montenegro vACC – SCGvACC (SCG = Srbija & Crna Gora = Serbia & Montenegro). SCGvACC belongs to the European VATSIM region, named VATSIM EUR, which is divided into 3 divisions. One division is related to Great Britain, the second to Russia, and we’re part of the one that is related to all other European countries. That division is called VATEUD. The first ideas of creating a Serbia and Montenegro division was first seen back in SATCO days, and after years of hard work, in September 2004, SCGvACC was given the official vACC status, a status which we held ever since. Over years, we have seen many real life pilots and controllers join our organization. This is a testiment to the level of professionalism we hold and strive for, all under our "As real as it gets" moto.
